Sir,—Kindly permit me to pass on a few brief extracts from an article on massed forces by Dr Frank S. Weston, of Toronto: "We read in God’s word: He caused all to receive a mark that no man might buy or sell save he that hath the mark. In Revelation we see the finish of tendencies which are now proceeding. One of these is a world system of political and social life. .One person controls. It is startling to observe the massing of affairs in our day. All forms of life are passing into the hands of a few. At the present moment 20 nations are massing their political strength. / Never was the like seen before. The League of Nations was an attempt at mass action. All this massing links on to one ruling power. A deal of talk a few years ago was on democracy. To-day democracy is vanishing. In Europe dictators rule. The old doctrine of equal rights for the individuals is almost obsolete. One writer says: ‘The age of individuals is over.’ The collective State is now the ideal. This doctrine will produce tyranny and tyrants. Society, as it now exists, is an organism in which the individual is only a cell. His rights depend on the organism. Commercial forces are massing. In the last 50 years the industries of the world have been coming more and more into the hands of a few men. There are 50 men in New York who can stop all railways, close every factory. and shut down every coal mine In the country. This is an era of big business. Banks are merging. One food company controls 20 other companies in the same trade. It is not impossible that in America one large trust may control all the food trade. Smaller concerns are every day giving way to larger companies. Most articles in common use are now controlled by trusts. A few men fix prices. They tell us what we shall pay for coal, gas, wheat, meat, and so on. The great movements of the day are heading toward one gigantic system which will control all human interests. Is this a dark outlook? I did not make it. It is not my wish. It is God’s word." —I am. etc.. J, D. Brown.
