BALCLUTHA Rugby Football Referees and matches for Saturday are: —Senior A: Toko v. Star, at Stirling (Mr I. Stewart); Clutha v. Clinton. at Clinton (Mr J. Heads). Senior B: Gatlins v. Crescent, at Kaitangata (Mr J. Perriam); Valley v. Union, at Clarksville (Mr W. Caldwell). Second Grade: Crescent v. Toko, at Milton (Mr G. McAllan); Clutha v. Clinton, at Balclutha (Mr T. Fox). Third Grade. Toko v. Clutha, at Balclutha (Mr Inglis); High School v. Crescent, at Kaitangata (Mr E. Richardson) In future, it has been decided, all senior games will start at 2.45 p.m., so as to get through before dark. Entries are coming in well for the seven-a-side tournament to be held at Balclutha on the King | Birthday. Competition is confined to South Otago clubs (Senior, Second, Third. Fourth Grades, and schools).

Sports Celebration Old hands at Port Molyneux are proposing to celebrate the seventv-flfth anniversary of the Port Molyneux Caledonian Society, the oldest sports body in Otago next to the Dunedin Caledonian Society. The sports were first held about 1864 on a ground near the Port Molyneux Hall. Later, the beautifully situated Kororo Creek ground was chosen, and became famous as a holiday resort on New Year’s Day for the population of all the surrounding districts. It is proposed to hold the celebration in July. Fine Weather The weather this week has been remarkably fine for the approach to midwinter. The ground remains dry. and many paddocks that at this time last year were half under water are high and dry, with the grass growing as in spring. Old residents say that never before has such a warm, dry season been experienced in South Otago. Vital Statistics Registrations at Balclutha for May were as follows, with those for the Same month last year in parentheses: — Births 26 (7), deaths 6 (3), marriages 3 (1). Rainfall The rainfall for May registered at Balclutha measured 1.21 in. Rain fell on 14 days, the heaviest fall (.41in) being on the 25th. The fall for the corresponding month last year was 2.96 in.
