BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING

A meeting of the Board of Governors of John McGlashan College was held yesterday when there were present Messrs T. C Rost (in the chair) Begg. Somerville, McGeorge. Hobbs. H L. Cook A C Cameron, the Revs, J. J Cairney, A. C. W. Standage. H. A Mitchell, and Mr McNab Apologies from Messrs H. D. Skinnei Charles Baker and A. R. Harris were received The headmaster reported that of last year’s Sixth Form of 11, 10 were fulltime students of the Otago University, five taking a course in medicine, two in science, two in law, and one in dentistry. Of these 10 boys one had won a Beverley scholarship, two had passed scholarship examination, two had been awarded a University national bursary, and the remainder higher leaving certificates. Education Department inspectors had visited the school on April 6, and made favourable comments on the organisation and standard of work of the secondary school Three gifts were recorded—a gitt of £2O from Mr Isaac Stevenson for the science department, a cup for individual championship swimming from parents of a boy at school, and permanent benches for the boarders common room from the retiring secretary Payment of the legacy bequeathed by Mr Richard Jamieson has now been made. , , . Johnson, M.A. The school janitor (Mr W Hoare) requested to be relieved from his duties from June 1. Mr Hoare has held his post for 17 years. Messrs Ross and McNab were appointed 'to confer with the Old Collegians at their annual meeting tomorrow about arrangements for the twenty-first anniversary of the college, which will take place early next year.
