POLITICAL PROPAGANDA
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—The methods employed by one of the staff of the commercial broadcasting station in Dunedin intrigue me. By nicely-arranged talks on every-day subjects he began to dig himself in, and he has pleaded repeatedly for correspondence to himself upon which, if requested, he will, as he claims, describe the personal characteristics of the writers. I took every opportunity which my busy life permitted to watch for the development of his real mission, and this morning my patience was rewarded, when, under the cloak of a devotional talk, he sought, plausibly, by way of illustration to convince the susceptible that the Labour Party is heaven-sent, and that it is "not intelligent of them to think otherwise." These are his own words.
The Labour Government seems to think that New Zealanders are easily mislead by ingenious propaganda, but I am convinced it is making a great many bad shots. It is obvious, however, that it considers that the end justifies any means at all to get back into power. May God defend New Zealand from such a calamity! I will give credit to the commercial station manager for having a nice taste in music. The YA stations could learn something here.—l am. etc., Kiwi.
