A FURTHER TERM

THE MAYOR OF AUCKLAND SIR ERNEST DAVIS ACCEDES TO REQUEST (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 7. In response to the request of a large deputation at the Town Hall thip afternoon Sir Ernest Davis agreed to accept nomination for a further term of three years as Mayor of Auckland. The request was made by the president of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr W. R. Fee), who was supported by prominent citizens. Mr Fee assured Sir Ernest that a strong organisation would be set up to ensure his re-election. He paid warm tribute to his work as Mayor during the past three years, and also to the support given by Lady Davis. In view of the approaching centenary, it was essentia] to have as Mayor a man who had a thorough grasp of civic affairs and finance and personal qualifications such as Sir Ernest possessed. The Mayor, replying, said that although it had been his intention to serve one term only he had allowed himself to be persuaded to continue in office. "In the position of Mayor I know no politics." he said. "I am neutral, and therefore my candidature will be that of an independent." Lady Davis spoke briefly, and said she was happy in her husband's decision.
