BOY SEVERELY BURNED '',: EXPLOSION OF PETROL (Per United. Press Association) HAMILTON, Dec. 7 t A flve-year-old boy, John Scurr, was severely burned by an explosion of petrol at the Rotowaro filling station yesterday. • He was standing near a motor car. the tank of which was being filled, when the petrol ignited. There was an explosion, and the boy received severe burns on the face, less, and body. His mother, who was standing nearby, ran to help, and was burned on the hands. Both were taken to the hospital. Mrs Scurr was discharged from the institution to-day, but the condition of the child is fairly serious. ELDERLY WOMAN INJURED (Per United Press Association) HAMILTON, Dec. 7. Colliding with an unknown cyclist, who failed to stop, Mrs Annie Proudlock, aged'63, was knocked down and taken to Hamilton Hospital last night with a fractured leg. The woman was cycling along Alexander street when another cyclist, emerging from an alleyway, collided with her, throwing her on the roadway. Police inquiries are proceeding. SCHOOL TEACHER'S DEATH BODY FOUND BESIDE FENCE (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS, Dec. 7. John Henry Francis Sudgen, a school teacher, of Feilding, who was on holiday on Mr A. Williams's station at Otane, went out shooting on Sunday and when he did not return that night a search was instituted and the body was found beside a fence with a discharged shotgun beside it. The deceased had received a wound in the head. The inquest was adjourned sine die. DEATH ON BOWLING GREEN (Per United Press Association) BLENHEIM, Dec. 7. After completing a bowling match in which he had drawn the winning shot, Hans Christian Madsen, aged 60, part proprietor of the Marlborough Express, died suddenly on the Picton bowling green last evening. He was a native of Wairarapa, and after journalistic experience in several North Island centres, acquired an interest in the Picton bi-weekly. He was prominently associated with various sporting activities, and was secretary for many years of the Marlborough Regatta Committee. WOMAN'S SUDDEN DEATH An inquest into the death of Olive Beatrice Johnson, a married woman, who died suddenly at her residence, 25 Chambers street, on Monday morning, was held yesterday, Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., sitting as coroner. Evidence was given by the deceased's husband, who said that his wife died suddenly before a doctor could be summoned, with the result that a certificate could not be given. Dr Chapman, pathologist, who carried out a post-mortem, also gave evidence. The coroner returned a verict in accordance with the medical evidence that death was due to cerebellar haemorrhage, a contributory cause being acute respiratory infection. PALMERSTON MAN'S DEATH VERDICT OF NATURAL CAUSES The adjourned inquest into the death of Thomas Edward Fogarty, who was found dead in bed in an hotel at Palmerston on November 12. was concluded yesterday, Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., sitting as coroner. After evidence had been taken from Arthur McMahon exchange clerk, and Ivan Agnew, telegraphist, the coroner returned a verdict that death was due to coronary thrombosis, this being in accordance with the finding of the doctoi who conducted a post-mortem examination MAN FOUND DEAD Arthur Ernest Liddicoat, a married man, aged 58 years, was found dead at 103 Maclaggan street yesterday morning. Art inquest will be held at the Morgue this morning. A LACERATED HAND When he had his hand caught in a circular saw while cutting wood at Waitati yesterday morning, Francis Ward, a young man who lives at 493 George street, received severe lacerations. He was admitted to Hospital at 12.10 p.m. HEAD INJURIES Margaret Jacobsen, a young girl who lives at the St. Vincent de Paul Orphanage, was admitted to Hospital at 11 o'clock yesterday morning suffering from injuries to the head, the result of a fall when sliding down a bannister rail. : ■
