. ... ■" MONTHLY MEETING The following were present at the monthly meeting of the Executive Council of the New Zealand Institute o! Horticulture, which was held at Wel--1 igton recently:—Messrs F. S P'.pe (president), J A. McPherson, F R. Parr, J. A. Campbell, J. G. MacKenzie, W. Hyde, and G. S. Nicoll (Dominion secrrtary). A welcome was extended by the president to Messrs J. A McPherson (vice-president for Canterbury) and P. R. Parr (secretary, Auckland District Council). An invitation was received to the International Horticultural Congress, which is to be held at Berlin next year. ; It was mentioned that the annual horticultural examination had been held on November 11. when 22 candidates sat—nine junior, six intermediate, and seven dioloma. The president reported that a deputation, in support of the establishment of a <-chool of horticulture at Christchurch. had waited unon the Prime Minister that morning and had been granted a sympathetic hearing and a promise of a favourable recommendation to Cabinet. The SDeakers of the deputation were the President of the institute. Messrs H. Kitson (chairman of the Domains Board). J. A. McPherson (curator of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens), and Professor N. B Kirk (chairman of the institute's Examining Board).
