THIEVES IN CHRISTCHURCH
CATHOLIC CHURCHES ENTERED OFFERTORY BOXES RIFLED • PS* United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. June 20. The Roman Catholic Cathedral in Barbadoes street and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester street were both entered by thieves on Friday night and the offertory boxes rifled. Entrance was Rained in both cases by breaking through the leadlights, that in the door of St. Mary's Church being removed. Efforts were made to open all the offertory boxes, but some of them could not be opened. It is not known how much money was in those which the thieves succeeded.in opening, but it is thought that the amounts were not very large.
