COUNTY AMALGAMATION
FURTHER INFORMATION WANTED TENTATIVE OPPOSITION (Per United Press Association' PALMERSTON N.. May 31. A conference of eight county councils in connection with the Local Bodies Amalgamation Bill, carried a resolution informing the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W E. Parry) that, “ unless further information than has already been disclosed is submitted in respect to the advantages to be gained, this conference is emphatically opposed to compulsory amalgamation as the ultimate proposal of the Bill.” The conference also invited the Minister to meet the county representatives here to outline and discuss the department’s proposals in respect to the amalgamation of local bodies in this district.
