A LISTENERS’ PETITION RETENTION REQUESTED (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS. May 31. A petition signed by approximately 800 listeners in Hastings, asking tor the retention of the present broadcasting services in this district, has been handed to Mr E. L. Cullen M.P., foi presentation to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W E. Parry) The petition is the outcome 01 a public meeting in Hastings, when an almost unanimous vote was cast in favour of the retention of the three Hawke's Bay B class radio stations as against tlieir purchase bv Hie Gov eminent. Inquiries made this morning, as to the intentions of the management of (lie Hastings station 2ZL as regards the offer of the Government, failed to elicit a definite announcement of a do cision It is understood (hat. though nominally (he offer was open until today. there is no urgency in the matter, and that further time will be allowed for consideration and negotiation.
