CRICKET TOURISTS

MATCH AGAINST LANCASHIRE NINE WICKETS FOR 272 WALLACE IN BRILLIANT FORM (From the Special Correspondent of the Press Association with the team.) LONDON, May 29. (Received May 30, at 5.5 p.m.) Facing the stiffest trial of the tour so far on Old Trafford cricket ground, where they will play England in the second test, the New Zealanders opened inauspiciously on a perfect wicket and in delightful weather against Lancashire, the first three wickets falling in an hour and a-half for 56. Wallace and Moloney then retrieved the position considerably, largely through another aggressively brilliant innings by the former, who hit six fours, three threes and only five singles in an hour, giving an attractive display of driving, hooking and cutting, 68 being added for the fourth wicket. Moloney took over two hours to reach his halfcentury, but held the innings together, being undisturbed by any of the bowlers. Donnelly assisted to put on 29 runs before falling to a new ball. Moloney, after 220 minutes of patient batting, with only three boundary strokes, was similarly dismissed. Lamason and Tindill were just settling down when a thunderstorm interrupted play for nearly half an hour. The pair then steadily compiled an invaluable 57 runs, a timely partnership for the ninth wicket, neither appearing to be greatly troubled by the attack though the scoring rate was slow. Tindill was unbeaten after batting an hour and a-quarter. New Zealand finished the day with the highest total of the tour, a performance which seemed improbable at lunch time. The Lancashire team is: W. H. L. Lister, Paynter. Hopwood, Idden, Oldfield. Watson. Place, Phillipson, Pollard, Duckworth, Wilkinson. One of the features of the day was the success of the new slow bowler Wilkinson The attendance was over 6000.
