PIPING AND DANCING
ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING A well attended smoke social of the Piping and Dancing Society was held on Saturday night. In the absence of the president (Mr Albert Wheeler) the chair was taken by Mr J. h. Thomson (a life vice-president of the society). The chairman extended a hearty welcome to all present, and-Mr Kenneth MacDonald (chief of the Gaelic Society) and Mr G. Burnett (vice-president of the Scottish Society) briefly replied. Pipers A. MacMillan, Kenneth Cameron, W. Milne and R. Hornell rendered pipe selections which were much appreciated, and Mr J. Moody related some humorous stories arid played violin selections. Songs were rendered by Mr N. MacPherson (Gaelic) and Mr Lockhart, and an accordion selection was played by Mr Eason.
Mr T. Stewart thanked the performers and spoke of the friendly feelings that existed between the different Scottish societies in Dunedin. The past successes of some of the pipers present were referred to by the chairman, who mentioned that Piper A. MacMillan was a competitor at the first annual competitions held 26 years ago. He also stated that all the pipers present were to compete next week at • the piping competitions, and he wished them every success.
