DEMAND FOR COLONIES
REITERATED BY DR SCHACHT SPEECH AT PARIS EXHIBITION PARIS, May 27. (Received May 27, at 10.30 p.m.) Five French Cabinet Ministers listened to Dr Schacht's speech at the opening of the German pavilion at the Paris Exhibition. After promising support for improved relations between France and Germany, he again voiced Germany's demand for colonies, saying that Germany's aims were often misunderstood because the fundamental element of German life was insufficiently appreciated, " with the exception of Switzerland, which enjoys an international guarantee. Germany is the only nation in the world not possessing, either at home or abroad, a source of foodstuffs sufficient to feed her population. This is a grotesque situation, and those seeking to keep up this state of things will never be able to eliminate the risks it caused. Those contributing to its removal would guarantee peace in Europe and the world for generations."
