DRUIDISM

The regular meeting of Enterprise Lodge was held last Wednesday, when Vice Arch Druid Bro. D. A. Kilgour presided over a good attendance of members. The bards’ report disclosed that little sickness is being experienced, and sick pay amounting to £ll was passed for payment. During the evening one candidate was initiated, the ceremony being carried out in an efficient manner. The business of the evening was quickly disposed of, and members carried out a sports programme. After some evenly-contested competitions, Bro. C. Gough proved to be the winner. Lily of the Valley Lodge, No. 11, U.A.0.D., met on Wednesday last, when P.A. Bro. H. The challenge to Linden Lodge for the Euchre Shield was accepted, the game to take place on Wednesday, March 3, in the Lily Lodgeroom. There being no candidate, the officers held a mock initiation. One proposition was received, for an honorary member. The bards’ report was favourable, and 'sick pay amounting to £1 was passed for payment. P.D.P. Bro. Reeves extended an invitation to all past arches

to attend the next meeting of the Royal Arch Chapter on Tuesday. A.D. Bro. T. C. The bards reported fully on their visit to sick members, and sick pay and accounts were passed for payment. The secretary’s balance sheet was received and adopted. The auditor’s report was received, and Bros. Cannon and Sinclair were thanked. The cricket match Ivanhoe versus Mistletoe Lodge, played at Green Island, was stopped owing to rain. The secretary was instructed to write and challenge West Harbour Lodge for the Cribbage Shield. The usual loyal toasts were honoured and received, and responded to by D.P. Bro. Tyrrell, of No. 1 District, and P.G.P. Bro. Jacobson, of All Nations’ Lodge. A game of quoits was played during the evening—A.D. versus V.A. —and resulted in a win for the V.A.’s team by 11 points to seven points. Members also played a game of cards. Bay Lodge, No. 18, U.A.0.D., held its fortnightly meeting, when Arch Druid Bro. J. Hay presided over a big attendance of members. Royal Oak and Mistletoe Lodges attended officially, and were well received, as were P.G.P. Bro. C. W. Jacobson, P.D.P. Bro. A. Rundle, P.A. Bro. Dale, and Secretary Bro. R. S. Webb. The lodge paid silent tribute to the memory of P.G.P. Bro. E. J. Bryant, who was one of the founders of Bay Lodge, and had at all times taken a keen interest in its progress. The balance sheet

was presented, and showed the lodge to be in a sound position. The sick pay was on the decrease, and the membership was on the increase. District President-elect Bro. T. Clarke was called upon to present to Past Arch Bro. H. J. Hughes a token from the lodge for his services. Visitors and members played progressive euchre, and after several games P.D.P. Bro. Reid and Bro. Fryer, of Mistletoe, tied for first place, and on the cut off Bro. Fryer gained the victory. Arch Druid Bro. J. Hay presented the prizes to Bros. Fryer and Reid.
