THE KAIKORAI VALLEY ROAD

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Kindly allow mc to draw attention to the Kaikorai Valley road, more particularly that section in the area controlled by the Taieri County Council. I understand that not in the distant future the Dunedin City Council intends to pave the portion in its control from the Kaikorai Stream bridge to the Stuart street carline This road has had a good deal of time and money spent on it as it is, but I feel it is time that the spreading of small metal was discontinued, as bv this method not only is much dust caused, but cars and lorries thrust the metal all out to the sides The grader is then brought into use, and it succeeds in bringing portion of the metal back again, and when there is not enough left to be scraped up another few loads are spread. This has been going on since—well, my memory fails me on this point. I suggest that the road be tar-sealed, and that the money now spent on upkeep be used to pay the interest and sinking fund on the loan which would probably be required.—l am, etc., Tar-Seal. Mornington, February 4.
