BROADCASTING

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—l am in complete concurrence with all Mr J. L. M'Neish says in his letter dated February 2. The YA programmes have certainly not im--proved since Professor Shelley took charge. Moreover, operatic music without action, even though performed by local talent, is largely a mystery to musically uneducated listeners. In my opinion, there is a distinct dearth in these programmes of humorous items and simple melodic music. Any listeners to whom I have spoken on the subject are very dissatisfied with the present programmes, and have little faith even in the future ones. In these perilous times, instructive talks on health and general welfare are very welcome and much more easily understood and appreciated than the yards of musical jargon which is understood only by the select few.— I am. etc., Musician.
