RICCARTON TRACK WORK

(Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 4. Conditions were pleasant for the work at Riccarton this morning, though there was a cold wind before breakfast. Most of the galloping was done on the outside of the course proper, which was in good order, but a number of horses went on the plough, which was fast. There were some interesting trials of horses with engagements on Saturday. On the plough, Roaming and Lofty, after going slowly for half a mile, ran home, the last three furlongs in 39sec. Wild Chase and Top Notch broke away from the seven-furlong post. They took 50 3-ssec for the first four, and Wild Chase finished in Imin 29 3-ssec, having drawn away from his mate in the run home. He was always going well. Paper Slipper covered six furlongs in Imin 16 l-ssec—a good effort. Haughty Winner led Mulatto by a length over half a mile in 49 3-ssec. Royal Chief began better than Ccrne Abbas from the six-furlong post. They were together after doing three furlongs in 37 l-ssec, and finished the journey in Imin 15 l-ssec, with both travelling strongly. , _ Pink Robe and Primak covered five furlings in Imin 4 2-ssec, .Sunbeam and Lustral taking Imin ssec. Bright Red went about nine furlongs, Pahu joining him over the last seven in Imin 33sec. Comus and Dictate did half a mile in 50 2-ssec. Invoice and In the Dark covered three furlongs in 37 l-ssec, Garonne taking 39sec. Heloise and Mercenary were companions over six furlongs in Imin Yl 3-ssec. Rose of Tralee registered Imin 21 l-ssec over six furlongs. Chidden and Sovereign Lady did a mile in Imin 45 3-ssec, going at even pace all the way, Knockfln and Gaysome were on terms over six furlongs in Imm 16 4-sec. Concertpitch following in Imin 17 2-ssec, and going comfortably, while Recollection , and Cape Gabo were not hurried in Imin 19 l-ssec. Argentic and Tunneller were mates over seven furlongs—the first four in 51sec. and the full journey in Imm 30sec, with Tunneller in front. It was a good gallop on the grass. Elegy opened his work on the course with a half-mile in 48 3-ssec. Queen of Song and Superex were mates over seven furlongs in Imm 32 2-ssec. , , Lazy Bones beat Mob Rule by a length over half a mile in 48 3-ssec. Top Row and Made Money sprinted down the straight. , . „ Fiord went about five furlongs, being accompanied home over the last halfmile by an unnamed mate in 48 3-ssec. Great Star and Coming Star did useful work over six furlongs. Nightbound and Gresham covered half a mile in 49 4-ssee, and Rotokmo was going easily in 53 2-ssec. Polydora strolled along for about a mile and' a-quarter—lmin 47sec for the Icist mile Happy Night did half a mile nicely m 49 3-ssec.‘ , „ Forum beat Palady over seven furlongs in Imin 30 l-ssec—a smart effort Palmyra beat Rebel Chief easily over half a mile in 49 4-ssec. Orange Bud beat Owlsgleam over six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec, with Dropped Catch several lengths further Bramble led Night Dress over half a mile up the back in 50sec. . Rousseau and Joyous took Imm 17 3-ssec for six furlongs, Golden Dart following in Imin 20sec, while Derive ran the last half-mile of her work in 53 3-ssec. Roy Bun covered five furlongs in Imin 5 3-ssec. Screamer following in Imin 5 l-ssec. j . „ _ Skylass did a mile in Imin 48 2-ssec. Epic and Glenavon took Imm ssec for five furlongs. Willie Win. after taking 55 l-ssec for the first half, completed the mile in 2min 47 l-ssec. . Vintage registered a good effort over a mile, covering the first half m 51 3-ssec, and completed the task in good style in Imin 41 l-ssec The jumpers, Golden Pap dl ) d Blazon, jumped two brush hurdles in company, the former going over them again by himself. Both horses went verv well. Later on. Blazon came out again and gave a good display over five steeplechase fences. Nocturnus accompanied him over the first three.
