RICCARTON TRACK WORK

(Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 4. Conditions were pleasant for the work at Riccarton this morning, though there was a cold wind before breakfast. Most of the galloping was done on the outside of the course proper, which was in good order, but a number of horses went on the plough, which was fast. There were some interesting trials of horses with engagements on Saturday. On the plough, Roaming and Lofty, after going slowly for half a mile, ran home, the last three furlongs in 39sec. Wild Chase and Top Notch broke away from the seven-furlong post. They took 50 3-ssec for the first four, and Wild Chase finished in Imin 29 3-ssec, having drawn away from his mate in the run home. He was always going well. Paper Slipper covered six furlongs in Imin 16 l-ssec—a good effort. Haughty Winner led Mulatto by a length over half a mile in 49 3-ssec. Royal Chief began better than Ccrne Abbas from the six-furlong post. Argentic and Tunneller were mates over seven furlongs—the first four in 51sec. and the full journey in Imm 30sec, with Tunneller in front. It was a good gallop on the grass.
