Secrecy : There is still too much secrecy maintained about the breeding of several ■good winners in sulky or saddle. An Unlucky Break Casanova put in a bad break in the Wa'inoni Handicap and cost what should have been'a sure win. At the finish Stirling Lady beat Casanova by a head.

A Fall Gold Tinge fell early in the running for the Mace Memorial and brought down Gunfire, Prince Harvester Prince Harvester, who paid a big price at New Brighton, started three times at the Forbury Park meeting. He finished fourth in the Suburban Handicap. Gallant Knight

Gallant Knight put up a good race when he won the New Brighton Handicap in 3min 19 2-ssec—better than a 2.13 clip. He beat two smart pacers in Parisienne and Navy Blue when giving them 24 yards. Disqualified for Race A fine of £5 was imposed on S. C. Wright, the driver of Indolent in the opening event at New Brighton, on Saturday, besides which the horse, which had finished third, was disqualified for the race.

Tempest Tempest went 4min 19 4-ssec when second to Blue Mountain in the Ollivier Handicap, and 2min 39 l-ssec in the Free-for-All, when Harold Logan beat him by a length. On the grass track at New Brighton, Tempest won in 4min 32 4-ssec, and apparently the pacemakers were waiting for him. Death of Native King

At the meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association, held last week, the death of Native King was reported. This stallion was by Nelson Bingen from Norice, and was a brother to Nelson Derby, Nelson Fame, and other good horses. He was a high-grade trotter, and in 1923, when owned by Mr G.-W. Watkins, he won the Dominion Handicap. As a sire he was a success, and amongst other horses left Native Starr, a high-class trotter. Levity

The Rey de Oro gelding Levity, who landed a double at the Waikato meeting, put up a smart performance in the second win by running home in 2min 11 2-ssec in a 2.24 class. Levity is the first foal of Escapade, who went 4min 27 l-ssec at the trot. Escapade was got by Nelson Bingen—Country Belle, by Wildmoor—Bonnie Belle, by Lincoln Yet. Tempest

Tempest has been a solid performer, and although ranking as an eight-year-old races with all the dash and vim of a much younger horse. He stays well and can pull out a brilliant finish. He was got by Wrack from Nell Pointer, by Logan Pointer from Gianella, by Quincey—Queen V, by Kentucky—Harold's Rest, by King Harold— Polly, by Robin Hood. Quincey was got by Vauclere, whose third dam was got by the thoroughbred Glencoe. King Harold was got by Childe Harold, a son of Harold, imported to Australia in 1882. Harold was the sire of the famous. Maud S., 2min 83sec, the first to step inside 2min lOsec to a high wheel sulky.. The Difference

It is interesting to note that Stirling Lady had to put up 4min 30sec to win the Wainoni Handicap.and in the previous race, the Mace Memorial, Tempest won in 4min 32 4-ssec, or a difference of nearly three seconds. The difference represents a slow run race and a true run race over the same distance. Moana Tama

Moana Tama's win at New Brighton did.not come out of its turn as he had not won a race since scoring at Waikouaiti last year. He started 13 times last season for one win and three places. As a three-year-old Moana Tama started five times without gaining a place. King's Guide

King's Guide, who won the principal event at the Waikato Trotting Club's meeting belongs to a tribe of good winners tracing to Pride of Lincoln. He was got by Man o' War from Guiding Star, by Logan Pointer—Marie, Corelli, by Wildwood —Thelma, by Kentucky—Pride of Lincoln, by the thoroughbred Touchstone. Pride of Lincoln had mixed consorts and they included the New Zealand Derby winner Stbnyhurst and July, a brother to Sir Modred, Betrayer, Idalium, and Cheviot, a quartet bought for the United States. It is, however, to Thelma, the daughter of Kentucky, that the family owes its present prominence. Thelma was a prolific producer and enriched the Stud Book with Willowwood, Wildwood Junior, Marie Corelli, Authoress, Adonis, Lady Sybil, Cameos, Waverley, Aristos, Neil Denis, The Pointer, and Azelzion.
