AT WINGATUI

Yesterday morning at Wingatui was mild and summerlike, and some gallops of an interesting nature took place. The inside grass and tan track were open and use of the course proper was restricted to two-vear-olds engaged at the meeting. Grand Finale was travelling more freely than Waltham when galloping six furlongs on the tan in lmin 18 4-ssec Grand Finale is a keen galloper, but Waltham might have more if stirred up. Travenna and The Jeweller were not fully extended when covering six furlon es on the tan in lmin 21 3-ssec. VaYitoon and Toreador left five furlongs behind on the same track in lmin Bsec.

Viking led Paladino over half a mile on the grass in 50 4-ssec. The ground where they galloped is fairly bare, and much faster than the course proper. Lumiere pleased more than Silver Jest when they were put together over four furlongs on the tan, and left the task behind in 56sec. Bay Duke was not fully extended when covering half a mile on the grass in 52 2-ssec. . . . . Polydora (R. Beale) was schooled over two flights of hurdles and shaped well. She afterwards covered a couple of circuits on the tan at half pace. The Surgeon cantered a couple ot circuits on the tan. He looks in good shape for engagements this week. Autumn Wind trotted and cantered and then sprinted two furlongs on the grass in 26 2-ssec. . . Chrysology (W. Cooper) was schooled over two flights of hurdles and afterwards cantered on the tan. Golden King and Daring Deed galloped a mile on the tan and covered the last seven furlongs in lmin 32 2-ssec. Daring Deed put more dash into her work than Golden King. Araboa. Pink Del, Janet. Gaynor, Amy Johnson. Roseman, Pride o Central. Isadore, Bay Duke, Redolent, and others were allotted easy tasks. The most interesting gallop at Wingatui was provided by eight horses being schooled at the barrier, and six of them being kept going for half a mile on the rails of the course proper. The "field" was made Up of seven two-year-olds and Lord Byron, the three-year-old half-brother by Iliad to Guarantee. The two-year-olds were Mr J. M. Samson's ch f Atalanta Lass, by Iliad—Entre Nous, the dam of Guarantee: Mr J. A. Browns blk g Lord Nuffield, by Straightcourse—Attractive Lady, by Tractor; Mr H. A H'Donald's ch g Gusto, by GustavoBonny Lake, by Sunny Lake (Bonny Lake is the dam of Mobile); Mr D. P. Wilson's ch c Auctor, by Balboa— Spean Bridge imp., by Righ Moe, a son of Desmond; Mr J. S. Blackies ch f Golden Flair, by Gustavo—Artistic, by Leighton; Mr D. M. Tweedie's b g Forecast, by Weathervane—Some Rose, by Some Boy 11. Mr C. Gieseler officiated at the barrier and got them away to a good line. Forecast was smartest out, but was joined in a couple of strides by Atalanta Lass. Forecast dropped out and Atalanta Lass and Lord Nuffield came up the running in front of Gusto, with the others handy. Atalanta Lass and Lord, Nuffield finished a length apart with the former going best and the latter, however, apparently with something in reserve. Gusto was a couple of lengths away, and the others fairly handy. It really appeared to be a gallop for experience at the barrier rather than a test of merit, as it is doubtful if anything was sent out to win a trial. Atalanta Lass will, however, take some beating in the M'Lean Stakes. Forecast was pulled off at the turn and taken back to the barrier, when he again jumped away smartly. Atalanta Lass beat Lord Nuffield in 53sec. Some watches made it better, and it was a good gallop, as the going, although good, could not be considered anything like fast, as they cut into the track.
