WAGES OF BAKERS
EFFECT OF RESTORATION RULING BY COMMISSIONER (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 18. At the Dominion bakers’ dispute, which was unfinished and will be resumed to-morrow, Mr S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, ruled that the provisions of the Finance Act regarding the restoration of wages and other payments to the 1931 level from July 1 had been read into the present award. The employers’ assessors stated that as some bakeries were now working before 4 a.m., for which a penal rate of 4s an hour is provided under the old award, the wages of some bakers will have to be brought up to £l3 18s a week from July 1.
