BALCLUTHA Weather Change Hard frost ami bright, sunny days have prevailed until Wednesday night, when rain fell and the temperature dropped. The weather yesterday was very cold, with a little rain and a hint of snow. Rugby Football The following have been selected to represent Cluthn seniors in their match against Crescent on the Baichitha ground to-morrow: —D. M'Fectcrs, Gold, Hill, Smith, Melvin, Brown, Bowcott, Maze, Moffat, Muir (2),* M'hitosh, Rodgers, Dodds, Stephens: emergencies, Howland and Gill.
A Pirates (Dunedin) Fourth Grade team and a Training College A team are to visit Balelutha on King's Birthday, 23rd.
Borough Rating A special meeting of the Balclutha Borough Council, held to consider the estimates and fix the rates for the current vear, decided to increase the rates hy £4ll. The Mayor (Mr D. I. Fleming) pointed out that this course had been rendered necessary by the two new loans (hridec and waterworks). I’hc rates necessary to meet tins increased expenditure on interest would be added to the consolidated rate, which would be increased to 9Jd. The increase would be between 14 and 15 per cent., but on the other hand there was no Power Board rate this year, which at one time had extracted an extra £llOO from borough ratepayers.-—After some discussion it was decided to increase the rates as suggested.
