RUGBY FOOTBALL

RAVENSBOURNE CLUB The annual meeting of the Ravensbourne Football Club was held in the clubhouse of the Ravensbourne Boating Club on Monday night. The president, Mr C. Seal, occupied the chair, and there was a huge attendance of members ami intending members. Before opening the meeting officers and members stood in silence in respect to the memory of the club’s late patron, Mr 11. E. Moller, and the memory of Mr P. Young. The chairman, moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, said lie was pleased to see the club was in such a good financial position. They had every promise of a good season this year. Mr W. E. Bagley seconded the motion, which was carried. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr \V. Webber; president, Mr W. Connor; vice-presidents—Messrs W. E. Bagley, J. Partel, A. Grant, A. Smith, H. Guthrie, T. Montgomery, E. Montgomery, P. O’Gorman, W. George, W. Davidson, and C. Seal; delegate to the 0.R.F.U., Mr A. Grant; delegate to the Accident Fund, Mr D. Jarvis; lion, secretary, Mr D. Jarvis; committee —Messrs J. Robertson, J. Baird, R. Wilson, R. Saunders, and W. Chalmers; trustees, Messrs W. E. Bagley and J. Partel; auditor, Mr W. George; club captain, Mr R. Guthrie; custodian, Mr H. Guthrie; coaches—Messrs W. Griifcn, J. Sticbbury, K. Guthrie. The opening day was fixed for April 4. A balance sheet of the R. Guthrie Benefit Fund was read and adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks was moved to the Southern, Zingari, Pirates, University, Taieri, and Alhambra Clubs for their generous support of this worthy movement.

PIRATES CLUB . The fifty-fourth annual meeting of the Pirates Rugby Football Club was held last evening. There was a large attendance of members, the president (Mr S. G. StychcJ occupying the chair. Before commencing the business of the meeting, the chairman referred to the death of Mr J. K. Evans, who had been for many years patron of the Christchurch Football Club, which could he regarded as a sister club to the Pirates.— A motion of sympathy was carried in silence. ’ Moving the adoption of the annual report, the chairman said that the club had not been so successful as in the previous year, hut, despite this, the players had enjoyed the games and, when they were defeated, they accepted the result in good spirit. He said that he could not altogether understand why there was such difficulty in slanging a practice night. Various teams. an-»ircntly, could not train on certain nights, and lie felt that this had adversely affected the standard of play. This year the club would have the use of the whole of the Carisbrook ground for training purposes, and lie thought, that this might bring about some improvement. The members were greatly indebted to the coaches for the time and the energy they had devoted to the game. On behalf of the club he extended congratulations to Sir James Hutchison, a life member of the club, on the honour which had been conferred on him. He also congratulated the players who had won representative honours. So far as finance was concerned, lie concluded the club was in a very fair position. It possessed a credit balance of £l7, and he paid a. tribute to the work of the treasurer in bringing tills about. The motion was seconded by Mr D. M. J. M. ’Taylor, J. Rohilliard, I. Glcndining, and H. G. Gordon; secretary, Mr C. B. Stuart: nss’stant secretary. Mr R. Cook; treasurer. Mr W. White: delegate to the Accident Fund. Mr C. M'Phee; delegate to the Sports Protection League, Mr W. White; delegates to the Otatro Rugby Football Union—Messrs S. G. Styehe, D. M. Stuart, and D. M. Spedding; Senior Match Committee, Messrs L. Giles and C. Saxton: Junior Match Committee. Messrs J. Rohilliard and J. W. Hook. The forthcoming visit from the Christchurch Football Club was mentioned and an Enterta'nment Committee consisting of Messrs S. G. Styehe. D. M. Spedding, C. Saxton. D. M. Stuart, and N. Hurring was appointed to make the necessary arrangements.
