NOTES ON THE RACING (Special to Daily Times» INVERCARGILL, March 7. The weather was unkind to the Invercargill Trotting Club to-day. showers in the morning keeping many away. The attendance was good nevertheless. The track was holding. The club should show a slight profit on the fixture. Lady Ita and Nell Grattan made the pace in the Trial Handicap from Bonnie Brjdone. The last-named was in front on the top bend, and led all down the back. At the turn Nell Grattan and Lady Ita headed him, with Walter Gay and Ruru handy. Night Voyage was making a run from the rear. The lastnamed caught Nell Grattan entering the f-t.raight, but suffered defeat by threequarters of a length. Walter Gjj was six lengths away, and then -Ilvi.'u. LOll2 Island showed fine speed to win the Murihiku Handicap. When the field settled down Blue Blood and Long Island led Elliotvale and Paid Bingen, and they had the race to themselves. At the sixfurlong peg Long Island broke and left Blue Blood with a lead of 100 yards. Once down again, Loty; Island trotted well to overhaul gradually Blue Blood and beat him home by four lengths. Paul Bingen was three lengths away and then Elliotvale. Stirling Lady recorded fast time in the Jellicoe Handicap. Real Gold led early from Stirling Lady, Embark, and Monty Chimes, the hot favourite, Golden Mist, standing on the mark. Stirling Lady went to tht front five furlongs from home, followed by Embark, and, although the latter put up a good fight, Stirling Lady beat him easily by four lengths Wrackette was three lengths away and then Real Gold and Desert Cloud. The winner is undoubtedly smart. \ Ready Money, Happy Knight, and Jolly Queen were responsible for the early pace in the Southland Handicap. After a mile Happy Knight went to the lead from Vologda, Jolly Queen, and Fairhaven. Until three furlongs from home there was no change, and then Moko Child appeared on the scene, but his effort was 6hort-lived. Erin's Fair then put in a late run, but at the judge Happy Knight had a length to spare. Eighteen Carat finished fast in third place, and then Vologda. A hot fancy in Belle Grattan won the Coldstream Handicap narrowly in a great finish. Red Glow began best from Pola Negri, M'Glusky, and Belle Grattan. The last-named went to the front in the back, and Red Glow had had enough. Pola Negri and M'Glusky kept at the leader, and approaching the straight Pola Negri just shaded Belle Grattan. A great race home saw Belle Grattan stay on under punishment and beat Pola Negri by half a length. M'Gluskv was four lengths away, and then Stalwart.

Bellerina early took the lead in the Waikiwi Handicap, from Patty Todd and Paul Bingen. At the end of a mile, Bellerina still had charge from Patty Todd, Paul Bingen. Fair Voyage, and Annie Moko. Bellerina was always going like a winner, and beat Patty Todd easily by four lengths. Annie Moko was two lengths away, and then Fair Voyage. The Visitors' Handicap was the best race of the day. Dusky and Erin's Star made the pace from Ma Waro. Royal Drive, and Harold Guy, all in close order. Picotee got into the bunch at the end of half a mile, and it was a fine contest. The order was the same right to the straight, where Harold Guy, wide out, put in a characteristic dash to bent Ma Wavo.who had been in a pocket all through and was unable to get out, by a length. Picotee was half a length away, and then Chevalier, Ma Waro was very unlucky. Radiant Gold began smartly in the Au Revoir Handicap from Erin's Boy and Weary Voyage. The last-named soon went to a tangle and dropped out. Down the back Radiant Gold led Erin s Boy. Bingen Wrack. Frank Mac, and Royal Guy. The last-named put in a fast dash across the top and he and the leaders drew away to fight out a close inns l. Radiant Gold winning by half a lengtli. Bingen Wrack wa 9 eight lengths away, and then Erin's Boy. Royal Guy was unlucky, as he lost ground early.
