TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel.

Timaru Acceptance Acceptances for the Timaru Trotting Club's meeting will be received until 9 p.m. to-morrow.

Jewel Pointer's Stock ' The success of the three-year-old Royal Jewel at Epsom last month, and the good efforts at earlier meetings of Great Jewel, have attracted attention to the stock of Jewel Pointer, many of whom are now being educated at Epsom. The only other Jewel Pointer representative to race is Gipsy Light, a sneedy filly who, unfortunately, marred her prospects when raced recently by misbehaving at the start.

Lynworthy's Breeding • Lynworthy is a bay gelding by Frank Worthy—Evelyn Locanda, and is one of F. J. Smith's strong team. After a number of promising minor placing, he won his first race at Epsom early in February, registering the excellent figures of 2min 49 3-ssec for the mile and a-qunrter. He won comfortably, and on the second clay he finished second to Cherrill over a mile and a*half, his time being 3min 26sec. In this race he is reported to have lost fully 100 yards at the start, and was timed to run the last mile and a-quarter at something phenomenal for a horse only out of the novice ranks. Blair Atho! Blair Athol. a winner at Hutt Park on Saturday, is a chestnut gelding by Bey, de Oro from Molly Pointer, and is a brother to Silver de Oro and a halfbrother to Llewellyn's Pride, two highclass pacers whose deeds are well known. Blair Athol opened his winning account at Ashburton on Boxing Day, when hi> made the New Zealand record time of 3min 18se« for a maiden winner. It was nn exceptional performance, something expected onlv of a horse of metropolitan mould, and Blair Athol is assuredly one of these. He is owned by his breeder, Mr G. Stanley, aud traiued by S. A. Edwards.

The Handicapping " System " Another Auckland complaint regarding the handicapping "system":—"Luminate has not won a race for nearly three years, and in finishing second to Rayon d'Or in the Papakura Handicap on the opening day at Auckland he registered one of his best efforts for a long time. He was penalised 12 yards in the Sylvia Park Handicap on the second day, but failed to leave correctly and was. soon in a hopeless position. It seems .hard to penalise a horse one second for the one race when Ironsg.de, who has won three races during the last few months, failed to get any penalty after finishing within half a. bead of Kewpie's Bond in a much faster run race than on the first day. Either there should be penalties for second horses or else they should bo eliminated, and until there is some uniformity in the system of handicapping for horses who are second there will continue to be dissatisfied owners and trainers."
