LABOUR LAWS
CONFERENCE TO BE CALLED EMPLOYERS AND WORKERS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 14. Though a definite date has not yet been fixed, the Minister of Labour (Mr H. T. Armstrong) is to call a conference of representatives of employers and employees to discuss proposed alterations in the labour laws. One of the main subjects will be a shorter working week. Mr Armstrong said to-day that this matter would be one of the main issues at the conference of the International Labour Office at Geneva in June. The Cabinet had not yet discussed the question of being represented there, but he indicated that it was desirable that the Dominion should have a delegate. He added that the question of amending the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act had advanced considerably, and that the opinion of those interested would be sought on this matter also before anything definite was done. The Government, however, knew exactly what it wanted.
