MINISTERIAL TOUR
VISIT TO WEST COAST AN ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION (Per United Press Association) WESTPORT, January 14. The Minister of Mines, Mr P. C. Webb, visited Dennistou, Burnett’s Face, Millerton, Stockton, and Hector to-day, accompanied by representatives of Ipcal bodies, and was enthusiastically received everywhere. Numerous deputations interviewed the Minister, mainly on local matters.
The Minister of Public Works, Mr R. Semple, visited Karamea, where he was accorded a civic reception, Mr W. R. Simpson and Mr K. J. Holyoake, M.P., being the principal speakers. A deputation was received concerning labour and road improvements to prevent serious erosion which, from time to time, since the earthquake of 1929, has caused heavy losses of land and stock. Mr Holyoake urged that since an earthquake was a national catastrophe the cost of the necessary repair work should be provided from the national purse. To-night both Ministers were the guests of the Westport Labour Party at a social gathering.
