WELLINGTON HOSPITAL

PLANS FOR EXTENSION FORMAL OBJECTIONS LODGED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 10. A special meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board to-day considered loan proposals in connection with the board's scheme for the extension of the genera! hospital, and it was decided to make an application to the Local Government Loans' Board for sanction to borrow approximately £155,000 for purposes of (a) a nurses' dining room, cafeteria, and social welfare block; (b) a four-storeyed 100-bed block in the place of the old main entrance; (c) a new residence for the superintendent; (d) the erection of nurses' home blocks; (e) an addition to the boiler service. Formal objections were lodged by the Wellington City Council and the Wellington Ratepayers' Association. Other bodies intimated that they were unable to comment till they next met. In view of the objections the board decided to invite representatives of the different contributing bodies to meet the board in a conference next Monday to discuss the whole situation. Another decision was to ask the honorary and stipendiary medical staffs, and also the Director-general of Health and the board's to meet the board at a special meeting to be arranged by the superintendent to discuss hospital management and building improvements as introduced overseas. The board is desirous of having the benefit of the experience and\the opinions of doctors who have recently returned from overseas.
