CAR STRUCK BY TRAIN
ACCIDENT ON CROSSING ELDERLY FARMER INJURED (Per United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, November 30. With his car badly smashed this morning, after being struck by a train and flung into the bushes on the side of the line at Norfolk road, 20 miles from New Plymouth, Mr A. Marshall, an Inglewood farmer, 75 years of age, received serious injuries. A crow-bar had to be used before he could be released. Mr Marshall was unconscious when he was taken from the car. He was returning to his home in a light sedan car. To reach his home he had to cross the railway line by way of a private right-of-way with gates on each side of the line. The crossing is badly obscured by high banks. He was almost clear of the line when the car was struck by the train. The car was twisted round and flung violently into the bushes on the side of the line.
