DUNEDIN NORTH Preliminary arrangements in connection with the campaign in the interests of Mr A. S. Falconer, National Government candidate for Dunedin North, have now been completed, meetings of district and central committees having been held and reports' of a highly satisfactory nature received. Mr Falconer will open his campaign by addressing the electors at the Coronation Hall, Maori Hill, on Thursday evening next, at 8 o’clock. Mr J. M. White will occupy the chair, and the candidate will deal with the political situation under four main headings, covering the objects of good government and the plan whereby those objects are to be obtained. DUNEDIN CENTRAL INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE, Mr Sidney Wren announces that he will contest the Dunedin Central seat as an Independent candidate. The chairman of the Dunedin branch of the Democrat Party (Mr H. L. Paterson) advises that, as Mr Wren’s political views differ only slightly from those of his party, the seat will not be contested by a Democrat candidate. WHEAT DUTIES SUPPORTED BY DEMOCRATS. (Per United Press Association) TIMARU, October 25. Mr N. L. Knell, the Democrat candidate for the Waitaki seat, in a statement to the press to-day, referring to wheat duties, said that in the original manifesto of the organisation there was a clause to abolish duties on wheat and other grain, thereby reducing the cost of bread and encouraging the production of poultry and pigs, but the clause was absolutely rejected by the delegates at the conference of candidates. Mr Knell said that the Democrat candidates definitely supported wheat duties. THE HUTT SEAT NATIONAL CANDIDATE CHOSEN. (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 25. Mr Victor E. Jacobson, of Petone, has been selected to contest the Hutt seat in the National Government Party interest.
