COMMUNITY SINGING

COMPLIMENTARY ENTERTAINMENT As an appreciation of the fact that the fortnightly community song sessions of the Dunedin Eeturned Soldiers' Community Sing Committee have been broadcast throughout the season by station 4ZM, a special night's entertainment, the proceeds of which will go to the management of that station, was arranged for last evening. A concert programme of unusually large dimensions was prepared, and the entertainment was presented in His Majesty's Theatre, which was well filled. The takings amounted to £SO. The leader of the community singing was Mr Arthur Macdonald, who proved as efficient as on former occasions, and the audience joined heartily in the singing of many well-known songs and choruses. This formed only a small portion of the programme, however, a great part of the evening being occupied with musical and novelty items, all of which met with a warm reception. One item was of a particularly novel nature. It was that given by Tim, described as the " wonder dog." Tim, though small, soon showed (hat he was as full of tricks as the proverbial cartload of monkeys, and he drew roars of laughter and rounds of applause from the audience as he walked about the stage, pushing a pram, rolling barrels of beer, and doing all manner of clever tricks. The remainder of the programme was as follows: —" God Defend New Zealand," Kaikorai Band; "Road to the Isles," Piper L. M'Killop and the band; community 6ongs, " Here We Are Again," " Give Yourself ' a Pat on the Back," "My Wild Irish Rose," "Landlord, Fill the Flowing Bowl," "Just a Wee Deoch and Dorris "; songs, " Danny Boy," "Galla Water," Miss Louvain M'Donald; Highland reel, three parties; impersonator, Miss Joy Gray; song, "Farmer Giles," Mr Charles Abbott; double sailors' hornpipe; community songs, " Something About a Soldier," "Stein Song," "Roamin' in the Gloamin'," " Harrigan "; stage presentation, Revellers' Orchestra; music and song, kaster George M'Lay; Oriental art, Mr W. Le Gal and party; Irish reel, three parties; members of Dunedin Orphans' Club, opening chorus; song, "The Crown of the Year," Mr E. Ottrey; vocal quartet, "Polly Perkins," Messrs E. M'Lean, J. Gordon, R. WilsonBrown and G. Ansell; song, " Shut Up," Mr A. N. Watson; song, " The Man who Broke the Bank," Mr J. Gordon and chorus; sketch, "Shirts," Messrs R. Wilson-Brown and A. N. Watson; duet, "Jimmy Law," Messrs E. M'Lean and J. Gordon; song, "I Want to Sing in Opera," Mr R. Wilson-Brown; song, "The Fishermen of England," Mr Arthur MacDonald; sketch, "O Doctor," company. The official accompanist was Mr A. H. Pettitt. The concert was broadcast by 4ZM.
