ROSLYN DISTRICT NURSING

ASSOCIATION’S MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the executive of the Roslyu District Nursing Association there were present: Messrs «T. Moir (in the chair), J. H. Matheson, Mesdames H. W. Bundle, H. Price, A. R. Falconer. J. Whyte, Misses E. Rutherford,, F. A. Wilkinson, J. Robertson and Dr Falconer. The report of the district nurse showed that there was much sickness during the month of June, including a number of aged and infirm cases. There were 175 visits paid to the homes, while 68 patients attended for treatment at the district nursing rooms. The executive was graceful to those who had made donations towards the medical comforts fund and tor the many parcels of warm clothing and food which enabled the nurse meet urgent demands. The Columba College Girl Guides gave a very enjoyable party to 30 small children selected by the' district nurse. On June 13 Dr T. Kagawa and the Rev. K. Ogawa visited the rooms and were much interested in the nursing organisation. Mr Ogawa stated that, on his return to Japan, he intended taking up the same kind of work in his district in Tokio It was resolved to communicate witn the Otago Hospital Board in reference to the supply of medicines for the poor attended by the district nurse. It was resolved to apply to the Dunedin City Council for a donation towards the funds, in view of the fact that all men under the unemployment scheme, including those subsidised by the City Corporation. wer.e attended free by the district nurse. The Finance Committee reported a small credit balance. The policy of the association was to attend the poor free, while small payments were made by those in a position to pay. As the former class, owing to the present depression, so largely predominated, a substantial contribution from sympathisers was ‘necessary in order to meet current expenditure. Dr Falconer reported that during his recent visit to Wellington an Organising Committee had been formed for the purpose of instituting the Dominion District Nursing Service of St. John, to which the Roslyn Association had agreed to affiliate. Dr Falconer said he was very hopeful of the other three districts in Dunedin following the lead of Roslyn and instituting a district nursing association at an early date, thus completing the full scheme for Dunedin. It would be necessary, however, that £3O per nurse lie guaranteed out of the present nursing subsidy provided by the Hospital Board, and that a contribution of, say. £3O per nurse be made by the Dunedin City Council. Without such subsidies it was doubtful if the full scheme would materialise this year.
