BIG DAY

COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’

EFFORT

A fully attended meeting of the Special Committee of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association, the province of which is to organise and direct the annual big charity cash and goods drive for the relief of. distress in the city was held last evening, the president (Mr D. Y, M. Millar) being in the chair. It .was decided to apportion all goods, etc., not required by the district relief depots in the district in which such are collected, equally between the Salvation Army, the Central Mission, and the Rev. Bryan King’s City Mission for men. The honorary organiser, Mr C. L, Finer, reported that arrangements were fairly well in 'hand, but that he was experiencing great difficulty in securing sufficient .cars or other motor vehicles, with drivers, to accomplish efficiently and speedily the drive, and he made a very strong appeal to members and those charitably inclined . members of the public who could conveniently do so to place cars at the disposal of the association for the morning of Saturday, July 27. He also reported with pleasure that he had been assured of the assistance again this year of over 200 boys from the Otago Boys’ High and Technical Schools, and that all that was required to make this year’s effort a huge success was a fine day and the support of the citizens in as generous a measure as in past years.
