CHORAL SOCIETY

"The Spectre's Bride," Dvorak'* immortal masterpiece, will be presented ia the Town Hall on Tuesday evening by the Dunedin Choral Society. Continuing its policy of placing before its audiencea modern, as well as standard, works, tha society has imported "The Spectre'a Bride," which abounds in unusual yet satisfying harmonic effects. The chprua at times has music of great dramatic power, with contrasting movements of quiet, resolving chorda. The descriptive music for the baritone soloist (Mr Arthur Lungley) is of a type seldom heard in Dunedin, and Mr Lungley has made, ia thorough study of it. Interest is being shown in the appearance of Mrs Leonard Cronin as the soprano soloist. Mra Cronin has had noted success in Wellington, Auckland, and other North Island centres, and has a delightfully clear, ringing voice, coupled with a charming personality. The Choral Society is. fortunate in having secured this artist, and Mrs Cronin will have very suitable music for her first major appearance in this city. Her two principal solos will b« "Where Art Thou, Father Dear" and the lovely "Virgin's Song." In addition to the solos, the soprano will combine with the tenor in what are features of the unusual work, four duete of a delightful nature. Mr L E. Dalley, of Invercargill, will be the tenor soloist, so that music lovers can be assured of excellent harmony in what should be some of the most popular numbers in the cantata. The chorus is at full strength, and a string orchestra will be used for the accompaniments. The work will be conducted by Mr Alfred Walmsley.
