"FRENCH LEAVE"

Much interest is being evinced in the farcical comedy " French Leave," which will be presented at the Town Hall Concert Chamber on May 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 by the Dunedin Strolling Players. One of the moat populair plays ever written, " French Leave" ran at th« Apollo and Globe Theatre, London, for 280 consecutive nights. Briefly, the plot centres round a girl married to a staff officer who is in the front lines. Anxious to see her husband, the girl dares military discipline and regulations, and in the guise of a French girl she visits her husband. The fun runs fast and furious when she is discovered, and th« audience is kept in a simmer of excitement as each futile attempt of the husband to extricate her from her pre-cai-ious and desperate situation is unfolded. The role of the young wife is in the capable hands of Miss Anita Winkel, and Mr Angus Goirie is cast as the husband. The comedy portion' of the play is in the capable hands of Messrs Douglas Skene and Reynolds Herbert. Douglas Dall takes the part of the French interpreter, and Roland Watson plays the part of a young subaltern. Miss Sheila Neilsori acts the part of a Frenchwoman, and:Bert Jones that of the downtrodden' private. Richard White is the producer, and no pains have been spared to ensure that a first-class production is presented. - z Dunedin theatre-goers have always expressed their appreciation of the productions of the Dunedin Strolling Players, and this year's comedy should prove equally acceptable to them. Ths play will be mounted in special scenery, and the D.I.C. Orchestra will provide the music for the overture and the entr'actes.
