After much rain overnight the weather cleared just" before the opening event on the concluding day of the Woodvil'.e Jockey Club meeting. The track was on the heavy side, and the weather undoubtedly, limited the attendance. ; Of the large field of 17 for the Novice Plate, State Bank counted on most support- from backers. Bezaine began very smartly to lead from State Bank, Wahine Nui, Popette, and Father's Voice. Rac ing to the straight Bezaine was closely attended by Wahine Nui, State Bank, Darecourt, and Count Willonyx, though almost immediately Bezaine drew clear and looked a likely winner, but over the last half furlong Darecourt, Pukeko, Count Willonyx, and Leprechaun all challenged, and in a great finish Pukeko got up just in time to beat Darecourt, with Count Willonyx only a head further back and State Bank, Leprechaun, and Bezaine almost in line. '■' ■' ! ; Confiscation was a good favourite tor the Hopelands High-weight .Handicap, with fair support for Grand Blow. Hie early running was carried on by Spearshot from Eka Tere, Confiscation, and Boudoir. With half a mile to go Royal Papa ran up fast, and he led into _the straight, closely followed by Boudoir, Eke Tere, and Grand Blow. Getting a lucky run on the inside, Grand Blow got up to beat Royal Papa by a neck, with Boudoir a similar distance back third, and Ires Sec a poor fourth. The winner has run several good races of late, and did not win out of his turn. Royal Papa showed much improvement compared with yesterItoeed carried a little more support than did Miss Hushabye for the Autumn Handicap. Eminent was first to break the line, and out of the straight was followed by Speed, Stitch, and Miss Hushabye At the seven-furlong post btitcn ran to the lead, but Miss Hushabye soon moved forward, and was well clear ot Eminent, Speed, and Stitch atthe.home turn. Over the last furlong Miss Husha- ! bye ran right away to win by five lengths I from Eminent, with Speed a moderate third. Miss Hushabye has improved considerably, and has now won three on end. Heritage was backed down to short for the Debutante Stakes. Hunting Scene got, the best of the start but Tidal Song soon .got to the from Surprise Item, Hunting Scene, Mesurma, and Heritage. The last-named moved up fast as the field raced mtc.the straight, and over the final stages Heritage ran on to win very easily.by two lengths from Blue Garter, who just beat Hunting Scene by half a head Surprise Item was a close fourth. Heritage i« undoubtedly a good-class colt, and appears to be now settling down. 'Blue S! as on the first day, was slow away, but finished nicely. Again only three contested. the open sprint, the Telegraph Handicap, and Souchong was selected as the best; ot good things. This he proved by jumping out in front to lead all the way and beat Navaho by a length, with Land lax a similar distance back. ■ ■*»„„„„ Timorous was favourite for the Mangapapa Hack Handicap, but. there was solid support for Queers Pride and Sweet Music. Secrecy was first to become prominent, followed by Sweet Music, Delium, Blvgain, and Koreroa, but at the end oi a furlong Abbey Feale had taken charge. Secrecy again assumed control to »eaa into the straight from Abbey Feale, Queen's Pride, and Koreroa. Once in line for home, Secrecy ran away to score bv six lengths from Raparahara, who beat Abbey Feale by two lengths. Then came Koreroa, Queen's Pride,, andjimorous. Round Score and. Hunting Bag divided favouritism ior the'Victoria; Hack Up, and Bonnie Vale and Werohia also had many admirers. Werohia, Wasteland, Royal Record, and Inveresk began well, and the last-named immediately went out as pacemaker, and up the back straight was followed by Wasteland, Royal Record, and Hunting Bag. With two furlongs to go, Wasteland and Hunting Bag ran into the lead, .and into the straight were followed by Inveresk, Royal Record, and Tupurangi. A furlong from the post Hunting Bag drew clear, but a moment later Bonnie Vale appeared on the scene, and in a punishing finish Hunting Bag beat Bonnie Vale by a short head. Grand Blow was two lengths away next, with Wasteland just clear of a bunched lot. Another small field (four) went out for the Maharahara Handicap. La Poupee began slightly best, and up the back was attended by Lapel and Hunting Jay. There was little alteration till well down the straight, where Hunting Jay challenged La Poupee, but he failed by half a head to reach her. Might was a moderate third.
