ST. CLAIR CARNIVAL
RAIN CAUSES POSTPONEMENT
After an extremely successful opening night on Thursday, the St. Clair Beach Improvement Society’s carnival had to be postponed last evening owing to the weather conditions. Everything is reported to be in readiness for this afternoon and evening. The pet dog parade will be held this afternoon in front of the surf bathing pavilion, and the beach in front of the esplanade will be the scene of the official whippet race meeting, when there will be two hurdle races and two flat races. There will also be a treasure hunt and a lifesaving exhibition, in which an aeroplane will co-operate with the life savers. “ Uncle Ben,” of station 4ZO, will be on the beach at 4 o’clock, and there will be a special prize for the first girl and boy to recognise him and speak to him. In the evening the carnival will be continued until midnight, and extra games will be provided. Various competitions will be decided, including one for the best carnival costume. Coloured flares on the beach and the burning of a boat at sea will make a fitting finale to the 1935 carnival.
