MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held, in the board room on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs F. J. Conn (in.the chair), H. M. Driver, L. C. Hazlett, J. Mitchell, B. S. Irwin, W., Yardley, J. M. Fraser, W. 0. M'Kelhir, Arthur Johnson, R. Gawn, D. M. Reid, E. Bolwcll, J. Hellyer, W. S. Thomson, T. D. Dalziel, Janies Begg, E. F. Duthie, S. Bowman, and W. Lee. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS. The Executive and Finance Committee met on October 26 to consider a resolution passed at a committee meeting last July that the rules of the society, together with show rules and regulations should be revised. The committee made recommendations for alterations in several of the rules, and it was resolved that these should be considered at a future meeting. On the motion of Mr E. F. Duthie, seconded by Mr B. S. Irwin, Messrs Stewart, Paine, and Forrester were nominated solicitors for the society, and it was recommended that a draft of the rules when amended should be submitted for their approval. The Light Horse and Competitions Committee met on October 29, when a proposal that the handy hunter competition should be eliminated from the programme at the forthcoming show and a shearing competition substituted to be called the South Island Shearing Championship was approved. The secretary advised that Mr G. Campbell, of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Dunedin, had obtained an offer from Messrs Levin and Co., of Wellington, of two semi-portable shearing plants and the assistance of an expert; which it was agreed to accept with thanks. Messrs Levin and Co., also offered,, o special prize of £1 Is to the shearer gaining most, points in the competition using Lister gear, which was acknowledged with appreciation. Messrs J. P. Little (Puketoi) and J. M. Nichol (Kaitoa) were nominated judges. The following were nominated honorary stewards:—Messrs D. Craighead, A. E. Blair, 1. F. Duthie and C. Cunningham. The following prizes were recommended and approved:—Fiist £5 and gold medal, second £3, third £2, and' fourth £l. The arrangement of catching and holding pens was approved, and the president (Mr R. T. Kirk) generously offered to supply a truck of sheep for the competition. Messrs Aulsehrook and Co., of Christchurch, will give a prize for the best girl rider under 16 years, and the Phoenix Company, Dunedin, a prize for the best boy rider. FINANCE. A meeting of the Finance Committee was held on November 12, when accounts amounting to £2OO 16s lOd were passed for payment. Three tenders were received for catering for the forthcoming show, and that of Mr .1. B. Wootton was accepted. GROUNDS AND BUILDINGS. A meeting of the Grounds and Buildings Committee was held at Tahuna Park on November 12. Recent repairs to the roof of the loose boxes and the new cattle wash were inspected and approved. Arrangements were made in regard to additional sheep paddocks and other conveniences for the show. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were proposed and elected:—Mrs A. M. Taylor (Mosgicl), S. C. Sutherland (Dunedin), 11. P. Andrews (Berwick), S. Brown (Tawunui), E. M. Coleman (Balcltltha), John Miller (Muungatua), James Marshall (Kaitnngata). Junior members: Miss Frances Thomson (Dunedin), William Jeffrey (Milton). J. S.. Miller (Broad Bay). ’ SOCIETY’S RENTS. A report was received from the subcommittee appointed to consider the matter of the society’s rents. Applications from the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association for the use of Tahuna Park on December 8, .mi the Girl’s Life Brigade on Saturday, December 1, wore granted. In a discussion on this matter Mr MTxellur said that while the society was anxious aad willing to assist any good cause, yet it was questionable whether the society’s own finances were in such a condition that it could afford to give free use •*! its grounds and buildings to anyone. It cost several hundreds of pounds p-i annum to keep Tahuna Park in order, and he thought the time had come when a charge, however small, should be made for all gatherings.
