The fortnightly meeting of Court Little John was held on Tuesday evening, and I.P.C.K. Sis. Adcock presided. The principal business of the meeting was to consider the allcatiou of the court’s surplus. There was a very large attendance of old members. An official _ visit was received from the following district officers:—P.C.R. Bro. Thomson, D.S. Bro. Macfie, and D.B. Bro. Gibson. An invitation was received and accepted from Court Pride of the Leith to be present at a social meeting. The C.R. extended a hearty welcome to the district officers and old members. The secretary, Bro. Wilson, explained the object of the meeting. At the • time of consolidation of the Sick and Funeral Fund was adopted the court had a surplus in which all members up to the end of 1912 were entitled to participate. Two proposals had now been received from the registrar of friendly societies, and it was for the members to decide which of the proposals they would accept. The first proposal provided for an extra funeral benefit in respect of each existing male member and £5 in respect of each existing female member who was financial at December 31, 1912, to pay annually to tiie Sick and Funeral Fund the respective amounts of 15s and 7s 6d on behalf of each male and female member now aged 65 years or over, and to grant a similar concession to other members financial on December 31, 1912, as from the date of their attaining the age of 65 years. Proposal No. 2 provided for an extra funeral benefit of £7 10s in respect of each male member and £5 15s in respect of each female . member who was financial at December 31, 1912, and to pay annually to the Kick and Funeral Fund the respective amount of 20s and 10s on behalf of each male and female member. The secretary recommended the adoption of No. 1 proposal. D.S. Br 6. Macfie also recommended this proposal, and pointed out that, in addition to the concession from the courts surplus, the members were entitled to an extra benefit from the district surplus, which meant another £lO, making the funeral benefit to these members £4O, and also that members upon reaching the age of 65 years should receive 19s Od per year towards payment of contributions. This, with the amount of the court s surplus, would amount to 24s 6d per year. P.D.C.R. Bro. Sinclair moved and Bro. Paterson seconded that proposal No. 1 be adopted. P.C.R. Bro. R. Jamieson moved an amendment that No. 2 proposal be adopted. Seconded by P.C.R. Bro. 0. Reynolds. P.C.R. Bro. Frame supported the amendment, and P.D.C.R Bro Reynolds and P.C.R. Bro. Heatley spoke in favour of the motion. The amendment was defeated, and the motion to adopt No 1 proposal was carried. The toast of “The District Executive” was responded to by D.C.R. Bro. Thomson who explained that the object of the visit was to present the general efficiency and ritual shield to the court. District Beadle Bro. Gibson, in making the presentation, spoke highly of the work done by the officers during the competition. The shield had now been won for two years m succession by Court Little John. He trusted that the present officers would endeavour to work up the standard set by their predecessors. C.R. Sis. Adcock, in responding, thanked the district officers for making the presentation. A great deal of the credit due to the court for ritual work was due to the assistance given by the older officers, and the sitting officers were grateful for their help and guidance. Ut course, they were all proud to have again won the shield, and would endeavour to hold it, but she felt that there were other courts making a bid for the coveted trophy. Should they succeed, Court Little John would hand it over with the same good feeling as It now accepted it. xne toast of “Old Members was responded to by P.C.R. Bro. J. B. Frame, ihe soldiers’ toast was, given in a very expressive manner by P.D.C.R. Bro. bin S *The fortnightly meeting of Court Enterprise was held on Tuesday last, C.R. Bro. J. Day presiding. The woodwards report was not at all satisfactory. The sick correspondence showed a large nnmb'T declaring off the Sick Fund of the court. Invitations were received from Court Woodlands Pride, from Court Pride of Leith, Court King Edwards Pride, and Court Pride of Dunedin, all being accepted. The S.C.R., Bro. W. H. Patton, asked for leave of absence, which was 1 granted. It was decided that Bro. U M'Auley act as S.C.R. at present. The following were selected to play in the card tournament at Court King Edward s Pride: —Euchre —P.C.R.’s Bro E. Johnton, A. Breen, G. Weight, and S. B. Brettell; crib—J. Dey, sen., J. Dey, jun., 0. P Dey, and J. Patton. One candidate was initiated into the Order by the C.R. P.C.R. Bro. D. Mercer, taking the second part, and the acting S.C.R., Bro. Wright, welcomed the new brother with the Foresters’ toast. One nomination was received for next court night. The oner of P.C.R. Bro. Brettell to supply a gramophone evening on the next court night was accepted. The purchasing of a euit : able present for the member who has reached 50 years’ membership was left in the hands of the secretary. The C.R. gave the toast to the visitors, which was responded to by P.C.R. Bro. W, Fleming, of Court Pride of Dunedin. The syllabus for the coming year, 1935, was drawn up and approved by the court. At Court Sherwood Forest (juvenile) monthly meeting C.R. Bro. White presided over a good attendance of members. An official visit was received from the following members of the Juvenile Council:—Bros. Craig, Neilson, Dyke, and Gibson. One candidate was initiated by the C.R. and the president, Bro, Davis. An invitation to be present at Court Pride of Port anniversary meeting was accepted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—C.R. Bro. Burgess, S.C.R. Bro. J. M'Kenzie, S.W. Bro. M. Mowatt, JW. Bro. Frame, S.B. Bro. Brown, J.B. . Bro. F. Flett, Assistant Secretary Bro. Mann. The officers were installed into their respective positions by the members 1 of the Juvenile Council present, i The fortnightly meeting of Court ■ Pride of the Leith was held on Wednesday last, when there was a good attendance of members, with C.R. Bro. i F. G. Ellis occupying the chair. An invitation was accepted to attend the next meeting of Court Woodlands Pride. Reports were given on the visit of the card teams to Court King Edward’s Pride, to the anniversary of Court Robin Hood at Port Chalmers, and to Court St. Andrews. The action of the secretary in disposing of the old piano and replacing it with a new instrument was endorsed. It was resolved to invite wives and lady friends of members to the next meeting. The toast of thq visitors was responded to by P.C.R. Bro. C. H. M'Keich on behalf of Court St. Andrews. An interesting paper on “Rationalisation of the Order” was read by the district secretary (Bro. J. K. Macfie), who was accorded a vote of thanks. The fortnightly meeting of Court King Edward’s Pride was held on Thursday, when C.R. Sis. S. Mazey presided over a good attendance of members. Invitations were accepted from Court Pride of the Leith and the Unity Lodge, 1.0.0. F. P.C.R. Bro. A. S. Dyke j reported on the juvenile branch for girls, I which showed good progress, and Bros. ( Barclay and Jones reported on visits to other courts. After the meeting an “ American Auction ” was held to augment the funds of the sisters’ cricket club. The social side was in the hands of the sisters, and a successful evening was concluded with dancing.
