VAUXHALL CLUB At a meeting of the Vauxhall Power Boat and Sailing Club held on Thursday evening there was a lengthy discussion regarding the actions of and statements alleged to have been made by the recently formed Power Boat Club which came into existence last Monday night for the purpose of challenging for the Masport Cup. The commodore (Mr A. Burt) occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs E. T. Holier, G. Tucky, W. H. Sell, F. T. Partel, R, Hitchon, J. Cormack, A. Hall, E. Kennedy, W. J. P. M'Culloch and J. Arnold. A speaker said that statements had been made that the new club had been formed by disgruntled members of the Vauxhall Club, and this was supported by others, the meeting agreeing that this seemed actually to be the case. References said to have been made by members of the new club to the Vauxhall Club, the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association and the New Zealand Yachting Council were criticised by speakers who resented the connection between the use of these names and a statement that the new club would look after the interests of power boat owners. It was stated that the Vauxhall Club’s delegates to the association had gone to considerable trouble with the association to get the New Zealand Yachting Council to put on a New Zealand speedboat championship race, which event was finally arranged for provided an entry was received from Otago as Canterbury had stated that it would provide a challenger. The tests were to take R plaoe at Lyttelton during the Sanders Cup races, but did not eventuate because Otago failed to enter a challenge owing to unfortunate circumstances which arose. It was therefore contended that there was no necessity for the formation of the new club to look after the interests of speed boat enthusiasts. It was unanimously resolved —“That the Vauxhall Club has taken no part in the formation of the new club, and that Messrs Burt and Partel make a statement on behalf of the club making it clear that there is no disruption among the members of the Vauxhall > Club and contradicting misstatements that are being circulated.”
