BOXING
♦ DAL COSTA v. CLARRIE RAYNER Saturday’s feather-weight contest between Dal Costa, of Australia, and Clarrio Rayner, of Blenheim, initiates what is really a boxing boom in Dunedin. Dal Costa has a great record in Australia, fighting nis way to supreme honours in New South Wales in the bantam-weight class by knocking out Young Eagle in the thirteenth round and thus taking the title, which he still holds. Against Blandon, recognised as in the first three bantams in the world, and champion of Australia, he was knocked out in the ninth round, but there experience played a large part. Costa is sanguine of success when he meets Blandon soon after his return to his native country. Rayner is already known to Dunedin enthusiasts. He has a great record, both as an amateur and as a professional. In his last season as an amateur he had four championships to his credit, and, following hia success in the feather-weight division at the last Dominion tournament, he turned professional, meeting with immediate success, gaining the feather-weight title a couple of months later. In all he has had 11 contests, winning eight of them. Saturday’s contest will be full of action. There will be little clinching, and the referee should have an easy task. Particulars are advertised.
