ALEXANDRA .
The annual social and dance held under the auspices of the Alexandra United Friendly Societies Council was held last Thursday evening, when there was an excellent attendance of the public. Music was supplied by the Majestic Dance Band and Mr A. M’Kellar made an efficient M.C. The Alexandra School Committee has approved of the appointment of Mr Alexander Milne, at present head teacher at Otautau, for the position of head teacher of the local District High School in place of Mr H. Colquhoun; It is anticipated that Mr Milne will be able to take up his new duties at an early date. Misses S. Cameron, J. and B. Marline and B. Hesson, of the Alexandra Ladies Hockey Club, left Alexandra yesterday to play the Central Otago team in the Dominion hockey tournament to be commenced at Christchurch 'this week. The Tower of London has a regular resident population of 700 persons—men, women, and. children —including the detachment of Guards on duty.
