SOUTHLAND POWER BOARD
LEVYING OF RATES. (SPECUt to Daily Times.) INVERCARGILL, June 21. Several matters of importance were discussed at a meeting of the Southland Electric Power Board over which the chairman (Mr W. Hinchey) presided. .. Of particular interest to non-reticulated ratepayers was the resolution in respect to the payment of the uniform rate carried, as follows: That the full amount of the uniform rate to be levied by the board for its .financial year commenced on April 1, 1934, ;and expiring on March 31, 1935, shall be payable with respect only to properties (as defined by the said section) for which at the time of making such rate a supply' of electric power will be availabje at the boundary thereof or at a point within 10 chains of such boundary, either from the board . or from any licensee or other authority, and that with respect to properties for which swell supply will not then be so available one-third of the rate shall be payable, notwithstanding that with respect to any such property the whole rate may be demanded. The following resolution was adopted.— "That the Southland Electric Power Board hereby makes and levies a uniform general rate for the period commenced on April 1, 1934, and ending on March 31, 1935, of seven-tenths of one peiiny in the pound on the rateable value of all rateable property within the Southland electric power district on the basis of the unimproved value, and that such rate with respect to each rateable property within the said electric power district is payable at the office of the local authority of the constituent district within which such property is situate."
