Winifred secured another easy win in the fifth race on the Lower Harbour last Saturday afternoon for Sanders Cup honours. She gained a-, good advantage immediately after the tetart arid. maintained that lead to the finish of the race. Eileen and Squib were the 6ther competitors. The ■ wind was erratic, .being a moderate easterly, at.the start blit falling away almost to a calm. at certain stages. Squib -was first across the line and was closely followed by Winifred and Eileen. It was a close haul to the mark off Bonner’s, and Winifred quickly went to windward of the other boats. After sailing some distance Eileen held the lead but was; too,*far to;,leeward. Winifred overhauled Squib near the powder magazine, where the wind gradually became lighter. Passing the magazine Winifred hauled up bn Eileen and - Squib fell back. When the wind freshened Winifred was the first to feel its influence and she then held first place. 'Eileen lost the wind arid was becalmed with the flood tide against her. Winifred wag first round the weather, mark, and her fbr’ard hand displaying smart spinnaker work, she was sqbn sailing at a great pace on the run to the starting line. At ibis stage Eileen was ,3min : behind Winifred, and Squill Imiln 30sec behind Eileen. All the spinnakers were well handled. Eileen was again becalmed after covering a short distance. Winifred drew further ahead at this time.; but when Squib and Eileen again felt tile wind they gained slightly on the leader, A luffing match followed, between Squib'-and Eileen, and the latter was .sailed; into the windward position. Crossing the starting line at the completion of the first round; Winifred , led the other two boats by 2niin lOsec, Eileen then being, just ahead of Squib. On the wind again Eileen and Squib gained a little on Winifred, but the light weather boat soon recovered, any lost advantage, and she . made. the windward mark, with a lead of about/ three minutes. Only seconds' separated- Squib -arid Eileen; On the run to. the line the skippers of Squib and Winifred engaged in-a luffing/match and lost, way as a result of going off the course and 'haying to round a beacon *to sail back to the proper course. This •manoeuvre -benefited Eileen,, as she sailed into, second,, position. Winifred’s sailing time was lhr.4min 55sec. ;

Kellett’s new •launch Rehouu during last week-end added another fine boat to the growing ..fleet of the Ravensholirne Club. Mr Kellett and his assistant (Mr N. Lamond) are to be congratulated,on the very fine i'ob they have turned out. Renoun was milt by Mr J. M'Pherson, and was originally used for fishing purposes, but has now been completely transformed, and what with her seaworthiness and added comforts combined, 'she will undoubtedly serve her owner as a first-class pleasure craft. ’ Club members wish Mr Kellett the best mf luck and many happy hours ■afloat, in his new. ship. ' RAVENSBOURNE CLUB *. i ./ A member/of the Ravensbourne Club who is : putting in a lot of time on his boat is'ML IL’N; Treurn. , Shadow is being fitted out this year with a fine cabin. It is Mr I’reurn’s intention to spend the week-ends ■ at the various anchorages round the harbour. The-ad-dition of the cabin should also prove its worth should , Shadow. make any short cruises up the coast during the season. if ex is now on the, club’s slip and undergoing a general .overhaul. She will yirobably be seen .'in/action by the time -.the regattas come round- J rex’s skipper (L. Todd) has had; a busy season, as he has also reconditioned-;the little launch Trjs, which has the appearance of being very comfortable since she has been fitted with her new cabin and dodger. > Hairy Davis and his fine yacht iucana are certainly taking.full advantage of the fine weather of late, and is to be seen cruising around, most nighty and every week-end. The owner, is keen, and there are many, yachtsmen who should follow Ills lead. . Of the spmller boats. Ins, Raskia, Vivian, and Frolic all have been in tlie water for some time, -and if appearances go for anything, they should all pertorni creditably during, the present season. Iris is a new boat to the harbour, having been brought from Port. Rose. She should perform well in the club’s R Division races. This division provides for races for boats..of 10ft and under with a moderate turn of speed. This class will race over a new course on the Ravensbourne side of the retaining wall £r6m tbs beacon 1 at the fertiliser wharf

down to Maia, twice round, a distance of approximately four miles. It is the opinion of the club officials that if these boats of approximately the same speed are brought together it will make for keener and closer racing. ! - ’ The club extends an invitation to ail boat owners to be present at the first club' races to be held on January (5. These races will be open to all boat owners who are members of any club in the harbour .
