OTAGO DEFEATS WANGANUI A LAST-MINUTE VICTORY (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, September 6. In a close and interesting game in which the issue was in doubt until the last minute of play, Otago beat Wanganui today by 13 points to 8. The visitors scored two converted tries and a penalty goal to a converted try and_ a penalty. The final points came when time was up and the referee was waiting for the ball to go out before giving the signal. At half time Wanganui led by eight points to three. Halfway through the second spell Otago equalised, and from then on tried for the deciding score. It came just in time, when the Wanganui backs were out of position. Both sides missed tries. The Wanganui forwards were outclassed by the slightly heavier Otago pack, which kept the pressure on all the way, giving the backs the ball. Features of the game were a brilliant piece of work by Bullock-Douglas which ended in a try for his side, and the erratic tackling of the Wanganui team as a whole. For Otago, M'Skimming scored two tries and Bolton converted one and kicked a penalty goal. Rao also converted a M'Phee scored a try for Wanganui and Morgan converted it and kicked a penalty. WAIKATO DEFEATS AUCKLAND (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, September 6. In a hard, exciting match at Hamilton (n-dav Waikato defeated Auckland by 20 points to 16. Waikato displayed superiority in the forwards and the back line combined well in several bright attacking movements. With the exception of Milliken, Hardie, and Solomon, Auckland were at full strength. Waikato scored fom- converted tries and Auckland two converted tries and two penalty goals. On a heavy ground but in beautiful weather the Wellington Colts retained their unbeaten record by defeating Wairoa by 21 points to 12. The home forwards were much superior to the visitors’, but the Colts' backs were outstanding and to them and the lack of a goalkicker in the Wairoa side _ can be attributed the victory of the visitors.
