CRICKET IN ENGLAND
THE COUNTY COMPETITION SOME BIG SCORES REGISTERED. LONDON, September 5. Sussex, against Essex, scored 402 in their first innings (Harry Parks not out 114, Pearce 80). Sussex followed on, and scored 258 for six wickets (Harry Parks not out 105; Eastman five for 09). Essex (which scored 560 for nine wickets, declared, in their, first innings) made 33 for two wickets in their second innings. Essex won on the first innings. Marylebono (who scored 266 in their first innings against Yorkshire) followed on, and made 403 for seven wickets (Wyatt 105, Hendren 105, Human not out 76). The match was drawn. (Yorkshire scored 557 for eight wickets, declared, in their first innings.) WEST INDIES TEAM. LONDON, September 5. West Indies against an English eleven scored 558 in their first innings (Sealey 69; Freeman six for 208). England in their second innings have lost five wickets for 272, Wooley being top scorer with 136. (England in their first innings scored 302 for nine wickets, declared.) COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP. THE LEADING TEAMS. LONDON, September 6. The following are the leading six counties for the championship: —Yorkshire 315 points, Sussex 311, Kent 253, Essex 224, Lancashire 210, Derbyshire 189.
