THE NEW GOVERNMENT PREPARED TO RESIGN (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) HAVANA, September 5. Cuba’s revolutionary Government, which is less than a month old, is prepared to resign in favour of a commission of five men to be selected by the leaders of the soldiers and sailors and the national police, who seized power through a bloodless coup d’etat on Monday night. PROTECTION OF FOREIGNERS. WARSHIPS DESPATCHED. WASHINGTON, September 5. Warships of the United States navy were ordered to Cuba to-day with forces of marines and bluejackets capable of providing respectable landing forces. It was emphasised that intervention in Cuban affairs was not desired, but the forces being sent were expected to protect foreign life and property. COMMISSION TAKES CONTROL. HAVANA, September 5. (Received Sept. 6, at 6.5 p.m.) The provisional President, Carlos de Cespedas, resigned to-day, turning the Government over to the revolutionary junta, representing Radical students and army non-commissioned officers. De Cespedas said: "Now it is time for others to assume responsibility.” A commission of five men named by the extreme Left Wing Radicals will rule. The change was effected amid scenes of turbulent confusion, but there was no bloodshed. . Disappointed and disillusioned, Carlos de Cespedas left the Presidential Palace after be had bowed to the Opposition. Jose Irizarri, a member of the Revolutionary Commission of Five, announced : “ We have assumed power and have constituted a Government. All of the commissioners will servo with equal powers except that Guillarmo Portella will be the nominal President before the Diplomatic Corps.”
