OCEAN YACHT RACE
ACROSS THE TASMAN
PLANS BEING COMPLETED,
MELBOURNE, August 2,
Plans for a transtasman yacht race during the centenary celebrations are being completed by a committee of Melbourne citizens who are organising the event.
Mr P. Bennell, in explaining the plans, said that the centenary race would be from Auckland to Melbourne. There would be a substantia bourse in addition to a cup. Two entries are expected from New Zealand, two from Sydney, one from Suva, and Melbourne will be represented by Mr Bennell’s own yacht, the Oimara. Mr Bennell intends to cable an invitation to Earl Jellicoe to be one of the crew.
