HEAD-HIGH BOWLING.

CONDEMNED BY CARR.

LONDON, August 1,

The Evening News says: “ Carr’s statement is the first big step against bodyline bowling. It is bound to influence Marylebone. It is understood that Carr’s reply to Marylebone’s invitation to the captains to express an opinion on bodyline bowling will assert that head-high bowling should be prohibited. Carr quotes four instances where batsmen were struck on the head.” *

The Evening News comments that head-high bowling to the leg side field is essentially bodyline bowling.

A cable received yesterday stated that Carr, on behalf of Notts, and Dawson, on behalf of Leicester, agreed not to employ bodyline bowling in the present match. As Voce and Smith on Saturday caused the ball to pass the batsmen head-high, Carr says: “I prefer to describe the deliveries to which we take exception as ‘ head-high deliveries.’ Somebody will be killed if such bowling continues. Dawson and I consider that the game will be more pleasant if it is stopped.”

HAMMOND’S TALLY OF RUNS.

LONDON, August 1. Hammond has reached 2000 runs for the season.

JARDINE’S KNEE INJURED,

LONDON, August 1

Jardine when fielding was struck below the knee and fell like a log. He was assisted off the ground. A nerve in the leg is affected, and he is at present forced to hobble on two sticks.
