FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER

ATTACK ON NAZI PROCESSION

Four young Communists —a sailor, a shoemaker, a plumber, and a workman — were decapitated by the axe in the courtyard of the Altona gaol. They were found guilty of murder on “ Bloody Sunday ” (June 17, 1932), when Communists attacked a Nazi procession, causing bitter street fighting. It was not proved that the shots of the accused killed anyone, but Captain Goering ignored the plea for mercy in accordance with the announcement that no clemency would be shown to those who dared to attack the Brown Shirts.

Forty-six Communists who attempted to distribute anti-war pamphlets in Berlin were placed in the concentration camp in “ view of the particular baseness of their agitation.”

SOCIALIST TORTURED TO DEATH

BODY USED AS FOOTBALL,

LONDON, August 2. (Received August 2, at 8 p.m.) The Daily Herald’s special correspondent reveals that Mr Alfred Faust, Socialist editor and member of Parliament for the Free State of Bremen, was tortured to death in a Nazi camp. Though he was 50 years of age and suffering from heart disease, Faust was continually beaten and kicked. When Faust collapsed as a result of hard work young Nazis actually played football with his body, and later the torture culminated in Faust being trampled to death and secretly buried.

JEW COMMITS SUICIDE

GRIEF OVER EXPULSION,

BERLIN, August 1. Fritz Roscnfelder, founder of a Sports Club, from which he was expelled because he was a Jew, committed suicide. He left a letter saying: “ Since I am prohibited from doing the work I love I am committing suicide in the hope of making my Christian friends realise how Jews are treated in Germany.”
