RED CROSS SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Red Cross Society was attended by the Rev. V. G. Bryan King (president), Miss Rattray, Miss Graham, Miss M’Lean, Messrs J. W. Smeaton, E. A. Rosovear, and C. V. Smith. A letter was received from the Otago Hospital Board, acknowledging the visits of the society’s representatives to Wakavi Hospital, and also conveying thanks for comforts supplied to soldier patients. A letter was received from the superintendent, Seacliff Hospital, expressing thanks for comforts supplied to patients. Several applications for assistance were received. —It was resolved that the secretary interview the Patriotic Society in regard to a special case. The other cases could not be taken up by the committee. A letter was received from the Services Queen Committee inviting eq-opera-tion in regard to the Queen Carnival lor raising funds for the unemployed. The committee expressed its sympathy with the object, and- resolved to give any possible assistance. Mrs Sydney Neill and Miee Graham furnished satisfactory reports for the hospital Visitors. There were about the usual number of soldier patients at Dunedin and Wakari Hospitals. The men kept wonderfully cheerful in spite of their disabilities, and they appreciated the society’s interest in them. They were also grateful for the kindness and care of the hospital ‘staffs. The committee received a good report from the matron at Montecillo. Everything in and about the home was going smoothly, and the staff maintained its efforts to promote the welfare of the patients. Five patients had been admitted and two discharged. There were now 15 men in the home. The Home Committee supplemented the report. On the motion of Mr Smith, it was resolved to write to Mr P. T. Wren, thanking him for supplying a number of oil drums to the home free..
